Lee Street Theatre
405 N. Lee Street, Salisbury, NC 28144
Lee Street Theatre performs in the Black Box at the Looking Glass Artists Collective, located in Salisbury’s Rail Walk Arts Districts. Lee Street Theatre (LST) was formed for two reasons: to mount original work by local writers, composers, and dancers and to perform existing work that is experimental in nature and therefore unlikely to be produced by other Salisbury companies. LST is proud of what its productions are able to do for the community and beyond: they allow budding playwrights to see their work come to full fruition; they present those who have never performed on stage before with an opportunity to try their hands at it; and they provide another avenue for artists in the Salisbury area to showcase and hone their talents.
Looking Glass Art Center
405 N Lee St., Salisbury NC, NC 28144
Looking Glass Art Center includes an art gallery, the Black Box Theater for performing arts, and classroom space. Also within the Center is a retail gift shop featuring work from local artist members including pottery, paintings, sculpture, and stained glass. Our artists also offer hand-woven baskets, hand-carved wood items, jewelry, books, and more. LGAC hosts art shows on a regular basis. Looking Glass Artist Center was founded in March 2008 to provide an opportunity for creative people of Salisbury N.C. to share space, resources and ideas. "The name "Looking Glass" was chosen because of the belief that, in our art, we see ourselves; and in a collective. what we do reflects on each other." In addition to visual artists, members also include musicians, actors, writers, dancers, poets, and those who want to help promote the arts in Salisbury and Rowan County. LGAC is also home to Lee Street theatre who regularly performs in the Black Box Theater. It is also the venue for plays sponsored by St. Thomas Players and other theatre groups, as well as music events sponsored by Rowan Blues and Jazz Society. The facility is available for rent for corporate parties, reunions, and other functions. LGAC welcomes inquiries from other performing arts groups. As there is no salaried staff, the organization is member managed. Normal business hours are Wednesday-Friday 12-4pm and Saturday 10am-6pm. The gift shop is open during events as well.
