The last year has been tough, but our Rowan County original restaurants are tougher. As dining rooms continue to reopen, we want to highlight a few of the many local restaurants that make our destination an original place to visit and eat. We’ve created a series of some of our many favorite original restaurants in Rowan County. Next up, Sweet Meadow Café.
Sweet Meadow Café opened their doors in 1987, the brainchild of the original owner, Marilyn Harrison. Heather Hopkins-Teeter began waiting tables for Marilyn in 1999, while she was pregnant with her oldest son. Heather took over as owner and head chef of the Café in 2010.
At least one popular dish from the original menu is still being served thirty-four years later, Marilyn’s Crab Cakes. In addition to the crab cakes, a first time guests shouldn't leave the restaurant without trying their fresh salmon, the pan seared goat cheese salad, or—their staff favorite—the spicy red beans and rice. Fresh salmon is by far one of their most popular menu items, you wouldn't believe the amount they go through.
Sweet Meadow offers an eclectic menu served by unique people. The staff and patrons alike hail from diverse backgrounds who come together like family. Whether you're an old or new customer, Sweet Meadow makes sure you have a place at their table. There's always a new perspective to be heard and told. Manager Addie tells us that, most customers would probably be surprised to hear some of the intellectual and thought provoking conversations that happen behind the scenes in the kitchen.
The best way to support their business right now is simple—come out to eat! Whether that means joining them in the dining room, on the patio, ordering takeout, or using curbside pickup service. Seeing your faces is what keeps them going!
Sweet Meadow Café is located at 105 E. Fisher Street in Historic Downtown Salisbury. The Café is open Wednesday—Saturday 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Sunday Brunch 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. They offer indoor seating, outdoor seating in their courtyard and take out. Give them a call at 704.637.8715. You can find Sweet Meadow Café on Facebook and Instagram.
