“Mook” is the nickname painter, sculptor, cartoonist, and musician Mark Brincefield has gone by since he was a young adult. Over the past 30 years, Mook is a familiar component of the Salisbury Post newspaper as the Sunday editorial cartoonist. What we don’t see are the countless watercolor paintings of musicians, ranging from landscapes to barns to portraits.
When Mook is not drawing, you might find him slinging paint in his studio, listening to his favorite musicians (Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Leon Russell, Lou Reed, Ray Charles, and more), many depicted in his larger watercolors. His paintings depict musicians Muddy Waters, Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Tom Petty, and Jimi Hendrix . . . to name a few.
Brincefield expanded from cartoonist to watercolorist in 1994, and the rest is history. His collection, and this new exhibit at the Salisbury Business Center, includes landscapes and portraits of people and animals.
The artists are the recipients of 100% of any and all sale proceeds.
