Since 2005, the Pops at the Post concert has been held the first Saturday in June. In these times of historic firsts, the Pops at the Post board of directors has decided to move the 2021 event to Saturday, September 11th. After taking into consideration the safety of the community, the board felt a change of date was the best option. "Fundamentally, the decision to reschedule Pops at the Post was driven by circumstances well beyond our control. There is a strong desire by our team to fulfill a sense of duty to the community by providing this free, outdoor concert while being responsible to the matters of public health. The ability to reinvent Pops at the Post is a fitting testament to the resiliency, creativity and generosity of the Salisbury - Rowan community." Joe Morris, Co-Chair of Pops at the Post states.
Moving the date to the weekend after Labor Day, which happens to fall on the anniversary of 9-11, gives Pops at the Post the opportunity to cater the program to honor this important occasion. Maestro David Hagy, comments, "The Symphony and I look forward to performing this wonderful community event with the audience in the new Bell Tower Green. We will honor the victims of both 9-11 and the Covid pandemic while celebrating the Bell Tower Green and a return to normalcy!"
The event will return to its normal location after two years off-site due to the construction of the Bell Tower Park and COVID restrictions. The inaugural event celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Salisbury Post newspaper and has been hosted on their loading dock near the intersection of Church Street and W. Innes Street in downtown Salisbury. 2021 will be the first year the concert will be held with the park finished. Bell Tower Green has always been supportive of the concert. Jason Walser, Vice President of Bell Tower Green commented, "From the beginning, we wanted Bell Tower Green to be a place where all of Rowan County would come together. It is fitting that one of our first gatherings in the park will be to remember a tragic experience shared by all Americans and all Rowan Countians."
More details will be developed and Pops at the Post will communicate these in the future. We hope all will mark their calendars and plan on joining us for a great day together.
Pops at the Post is a 501(c)(3) entity that hosts a yearly community event in Salisbury, NC. Due to sponsorships and donations, the concert continues to be a completely free community event. It features a performance by the Salisbury-Rowan Symphony, led by Maestro David Hagy and hosted by the Salisbury Post newspaper.
