China Grove Roller Mill

Description:

For one hundred years, the China Grove Roller Mill was in continuous operation and was a meeting place for the agricultural community surrounding the town of China Grove. Farmers came to sell their grain for flour and corn meal production, to purchase farm necessities and to socialize.


When visitors enter the roller mill, they are transported to an earlier time, where wheat and corn were turned into flour and corn meal. The story of the community and the roller mill are told in pictorial exhibits, artifact displays and video.

The Roller Mill Museum is available for receptions, meetings and public events. A catering kitchen near two all-purpose rooms supports these uses.

Description: 425-acre park located 8 miles southeast of Salisbury. Offers a 10-acre lake for paddle boating and fishing, Rowan Wildlife Adventures, tennis courts, picnic shelters, Hurley Family Water Plaza, playground, volleyball, horseshoes, ball fields, miniature golf, carousel, gem mining, fresh water aquarium and miniature train ride for children. The 80 site family campground is open all year round. Outdoor theater.

Description: With a donation from Friends of the Mountain and a Parks and Recreation Trust Fund Grant and generosity of the Land Trust For Central North Carolina, this property is the newest Rowan County Park.

Eagle Point Nature Preserve

Description: Two hundred acre natural area on remote part of High Rock Lake. Visitors can hike 4.5 miles of trails to vistas of the lake and wildlife observation points. Self-introspective nature trails, old home sites, seasonal canoe access, and fishing from the shore.

Description: Known as the "Carolinas' Loveliest & Liveliest" Holiday Parade; volunteer produced since 1960; quality entertainment, totally free to the public. Parade begins in Spencer NC at 2 pm and in Salisbury NC at 3 pm. One of the few parades in the nation with a holiday theme that goes simultaneously in 2 different towns. Reserved seats available.

Kannapolis Intimidators

The Kannapolis Intimidators are the Single-A farm club in the Chicago White Sox minor league chain. Young players generally one year out of high school or college become Kannapolis Intimidators. The White Sox also have affiliates in Bristol, VA (Rookie), Great Falls, MT (Short Season), Winston-Salem, NC (A-Advanced), Birmingham, AL (AA), and Charlotte, NC (AAA). The 2009 Kannapolis Intimidators finished the season with an overall record of 82-57.
League Membership
The Intimidators are one of the 14 teams of the Class-A South Atlantic League. The SAL opened its doors with the first season in 1903. The circuit is one of the biggest geographically in Minor League Baseball, including sevens tates spanning from Lakewood, NJ, to Savannah, GA. The Kannapolis Intimidators play in the Northern Division of the South Atlantic League.
Schedule
The Intimidators play 140 games in the regular season. The team plays 70 home games at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, welcoming 13 different major league affiliated teams to Kannapolis, NC. The season begins April 8th and concludes September 6th. The South Atlantic League playoffs begin immediately following the regular season.

Stadium
The Intimidators call Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium home. The 4,700-seat facility was built in 1995 and is conveniently located off Interstate 85 at Exit 63. It features six luxury suites with an elevated view of the field, conference room with capacity of 50 with a flat screen TV, sound system, and Power Point presentation capabilities, reserved seat sections with chair backs, general admission bleacher seating, picnic shelter (BB&T Picnic Pavilion) accommodations for more than 500 people, a birthday party pavilion (Cheerwine Birthday Pavilion), and a grassy area down the 3rd base line to accommodate overflow crowds. "The Cannon" also has two fully-equipped concession stands and many other specialty carts on the main concourse. The ballpark's press box and clubhouses are among the finest in the league. Other fixtures of the stadium include a souvenir store (Intimidation Station), a playground area (The Pit Stop Playground) located down the 1st base line, and various games and displays on the concourse level.
